On black suit

Did some research on this. Here's what I found: 1. Tuxedo(礼服, always black) + black tie(领结) is the most formal dress for men; while a dark suit(西服) + tie(领带) is considered to be formal or semi-formal. 2. Dark suit: A dark suit can be worn for all occasions, irrespective of the time of day, including at white tie events. The term dark suit simply means a dark grey, dark blue or black suit. The material can be subtly striped, but not pinstripe. 3. From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suit_%28clothes%29): The classic coservative suit colors are navy blue, grey, and charcoal. Black has only recently gained acceptance as a suit color, and still is not considered particularily conservative. 4. From Emily Post, "Etiquette", 1922 (an etiquette "bible", http://www.bartleby.com/95/34.html): (Business suits 4) A blue or black sack suit will do in place of a cutaway at a wedding, but not if you are the groom or an usher. Therefore I slightly modify my claim to be

gcc notes

From gcc manual: "It makes a difference where in the command you write this option; the linker searches processes libraries and object files in the order they are specified. Thus, `foo.o -lz bar.o' searches library `z' after file `foo.o' but before `bar.o'. If `bar.o' refers to functions in `z', those functions may not be loaded." Got stucked by this stupid mistake for a long time. So $(CC) $(CFLAGS) weight.o -loolm -lmisc -ldstruct -o weight works while $(CC) $(CFLAGS) -loolm -lmisc -ldstruct weight.o -o weight DOESN'T!!! Conclusion: put main() obj first!

Had a good time

An anecdotal account of the 9# reunion in Chicago. 03/17/05 Gossiping around 9#bbs'ers with ying and moron. 03/18/05 Visited University of Chicago campus. Saw the scence from "When Harry Met Sally". Went to the "Signiture Room", an elegant bar and restarount on the 95th floor of John Hancock building. Had a martini called "Signiture Pear". Very nice night view of Chicago city. Later went to strip club "This IS it". ID's from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Carlifornia, Maryland, etc. brought the club an instant "all-American" fame. 03/19/05 Went to the Art Institute of Chicago. They have a big collection of Monet and other impressionist. Some Rambrandt and Picasso, too. Went to karaoke in chinatown. Sang "Dong Feng Po" for the first time. Went to disco bar "Vision". Very nice place. strikes was the best male dancer, who attracted an American girl to dance with him. Later he complained about the funny smell from

Importing mail from Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express to Apple Mail

Short answer: Mozilla ThunderBird (Windows version) Long answer: I did some research on google. Surprisingly I found not a single article could give a simple answer. So I solved it myself. Problem: To import my old mail from Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express to Apple Mail. Constraint: No Microsoft software on Mac, no registration fee for stupid sharewares. Solution: The problem is essentially a format conversion from .pst to .mbox. So it reduces to find a free format converter. Turns out Mozilla ThurderBird is a Windows-friendly, free-spirit, *nix-rooted mail client, which serves as a wonderful .pst to .mbox converter. Done. Yeah!

Compiled HTK and Cxterm on Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

HTK: Follow http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/docs/faq.shtml "How can I compile HTK 3.2 on Mac OS X". One trick missing: in the HTKLib folder, open the strarr.c source and change #include <malloc.h> into #include <malloc/malloc.h> Cause in Panther (also FreeBSD?), malloc.h is in /usr/include/malloc/. Cxterm: Change int initgroups(const char *, gid_t) into int initgroups(const char *, int) cause that's the prototype in Panther(also FreeBSD?). Feels good.
