TOTC - Nice

I spent my second day in Nice wandering around the city itself. Nice Beach Babe! Originally uploaded by yisu1979 In a shameless attempt to boost my blog's popularity, I gave you, my curious readers, a stunning bikini babe on the beach of the beautiful Côte d'Azur. I apologize to the girl in the picture for not asking for her permission but as a photographer, I just had to take it. Sorry for the pun, though. You'll see this pun again and again until you get tired of it. Blue Umbrella Originally uploaded by yisu1979 The Chinese name for "Côte d'Azur" is “蔚蓝海岸”, literally "Bright Blue Coast". And indeed, blue is *the* color of Nice. Blue Chairs Originally uploaded by yisu1979 Note that the beaches in Nice were made of stones, not sands. So they weren't as comfortable as the sand ones, I was told. Promenade des Anglais Originally uploaded by yisu1979 The Promenade des Anglais was a great jogging place in the

Jacky Cheung Rocked Atlantic City, Again: Photos

As promised, I gave you some photos from my concert-going Atlantic City trip. Jacky Cheung Concert Poster Originally uploaded by yisu1979 This was the official poster for this encore show. I got it from the organizer's website . In case you don't speak Chinese, the words above read, "By popular demand, the King of Cantonpop returns with honor." Sounds a little cheesy in English, huh? Well, there's always something lost in translation. Trump Taj Mahal Originally uploaded by yisu1979 The concert was held in the Arena in the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort , a decent place for this kind of concerts. Taj Mahal Casino Originally uploaded by yisu1979 If you haven't seen a casino before, here it is. (And you've seen all of them.) Chandelier Originally uploaded by yisu1979 Taj Mahal is richly decorated. It tries to pitch itself as a better or higher-end casino than others. (So they can charge you more.) T-shirts Orig

Jacky Cheung Rocked Atlantic City, Again

In a rare encore show of an already successful world tour , Jacky Cheung (张学友) proved that after 23 years of leading Cantonpop , he was still, above all, a great singer. His 2007 tour, dubbed "The Year of Jacky Cheung", was largely an attempt to reclaim his popularity. We know how fickle the taste of pop music fans' can be; let alone the somewhat naÏve taste of Cantonpop fans', no offense. In fact, Jacky Cheung himself was the outcome of a successful J-pop invasion, or more precisely, J-pop localization, in late 80s and early 90s. His first hit, "Loving You A Little More Every Day"(《每天爱你多一些》),was a not-so-successful J-pop song with a brand new Cantonese lyrics. (BTW, the latest invasion came from "K-pop", or Korean pop music.) This winning formula was later copied by dozens of other Cantonpop stars, until the people of Hong Kong finally got tired. In this concert, he tried to emphasize his later songs. Although he showed that he could tap into th

TOTC - Monaco

For those of you who *actually* followed my story, I apologize: I lied, to some extent, when I said my next stop was Nice. In fact I arrived at Nice at night after a very enjoyable, and amazingly fast TGV ride. But I took a day trip to Monaco the very next day. Les Casinos de Monte-Carlo Originally uploaded by yisu1979 In case you haven't know, the Principality of Monaco is a city state with a constitutional monarchy. There are two ways to get there from Nice: a €1,5(!), 40-minute bus or a €5, 15-minute train. I took the bus not because it was cheaper but because I thought the bus ride would have much better views en route given it went along the coast line. I was *so* right. The first thing you saw after arrival was the world famous black tie required casino. Did I remember to wear black tie to get in for the allegedly exquisite interior? Are you kidding me?
